Former Formula 1 Stars Headline Masters Demo Legends Showcase at Brands Hatch
A spectacular selection of Formula 1 machinery from 1983 to 2005 took to the Brands Hatch circuit as part of the Masters Demo Legends programme, giving spectators a rare opportunity to see iconic Grand Prix cars back in action during the Masters Historic Festival.
Leading the line-up were two familiar names from Formula 1’s golden era. Former Grand Prix driver Martin Donnelly returned to the wheel of a Footwork Arrows FA14, the striking 1993 machine representing one of the most recognisable designs of the early 1990s. Donnelly remains one of the most respected figures in the historic racing paddock and his appearance was warmly received by fans around the circuit.
Joining him was another Formula 1 veteran, Stefan Johansson, who demonstrated the March 871 Leyton House from the 1987 season. The Swede enjoyed a distinguished Grand Prix career with teams including Ferrari and McLaren and remains one of the most popular drivers associated with the era. Seeing Johansson reunited with a period Formula 1 car provided one of the highlights of the weekend.
The demonstration also featured Jonathan Constable in a Tyrrell 021 from 1983, Michael Fitzgerald aboard a Jordan 194 from 1994 and Matthew Miller in a Lola Formula Nippon machine from 2005, showcasing more than two decades of single-seater development in one unique display.
While no competitive results were at stake, the Masters Demo Legends session delivered a fitting celebration of Formula 1 history, with the sights and sounds of Grand Prix machinery returning to Brands Hatch in front of an appreciative crowd. The presence of former Formula 1 stars Donnelly and Johansson added an extra layer of significance to a memorable demonstration run.
