Constable Charges Through the Field
Jamie Constable had to start from the back of the grid despite taking pole in qualifying in his Tyrell 011 after a ride-height infringement. From lights out, he quickly carved through the field and by the third lap, he had caught the top three and made a pass on Oliver Chapman’s March 761 who was flying after starting the race in P2.
The Constable was quickly on the tail of Steve Brooks, and by the fifth lap they were side by side down the pit straight until Constable received a warning for track limits and backed off but was ahead by lap seven. Suddenly, Oliver Chapman came to an abrupt stop in his March, and the worst fears came to light as his engine gasped its last breath.
This stop saw the deployment of the safety car and, after the restart, racing had only been underway for two minutes when it had to be deployed again. The V12 engine of John of B’s stunning Matra MS120C gave out a puff of white smoke and went sick leaving oil in its wake, and it was not safe to restart, so the safety car remained on track until the race concluded.
At the flag, Constable maintained his lead on Brooks for the win by 1.67 seconds, with Patrick d’Aubrey claiming third in the Nordica-liveried Arrows after battling with Soheil Ayari in the former Arturo Merzario Williams FW03.
Class results saw John of B classified as the winner of the Stewart Class, while Soheil Ayari won the Fittipaldi Class.

Brooks Takes His Turn at the Front
Soheil was absolutely flying in the Williams FW03 and posted the fastest lap of 1:14.48 before grinding to a halt on the pit straight after an electrical cable failed and the car lost all power. It was a real disappointment, as it was a joy to see the unusual Williams being driven with such vigour and flare.
A safety car was deployed to move the stricken Williams to safety and after the re-start Steve Brooks was comfortably in the lead in the Lotus 91 and was able to keep his nose in front, taking the chequered flag 6.2 seconds ahead of Jamie Constable. Patrick d’Aubrey took the third step on the podium for a second time in his Arrows A4.
The Dijon Motors Cup was a memorable weekend for the Masters 2026 season – the event was blessed with perfect weather conditions from start to finish and there was a convivial and relaxed atmosphere throughout the paddock packed with true racing enthusiasts.
