We kick off an exciting season in the Spanish sunshine with an oversubscribed grid for Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars!
The Espiritu de Montjuic on April 8/9 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya offers a great chance to blow away the winter cobwebs and to catch a first glimpse of the cars that are set to light up the Masters 2017 season. We are delighted that the combined Masters Pre-66 Touring car and NKHTGT is full to bursting!
Round 1 of the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship kicks-off with the opportunity for a free practise session, as well as a qualifying session and two races, hot in the tyre prints of their modern equivalents, who were testing in Barcelona earlier this month. Expect to see a Williams’ frenzy with cars in the hands of Christophe D’Ansembourg, Tommy Dreelan and Mike Wrigley as well as Masters newcomer Mark Hazell. Loic Deman returns in his Tyrrell 010 to the scene of his great 2015 battle with Greg Thornton. Thornton switches cars this year, entering his Lotus 77 to challenge for the Pre-78 Championship.
The FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars will also be keen to continue where they left off at Jarama last October. The 2016 Championship went down to the wire so getting some early points on the board is all-important if you want to be a contender for 2017. The big-engined power of the Lola T70s of David Hart, Jason Wright and Paul Gibson are all set to battle it out with the nimbler, prototype power of Max Smith-Hilliard’s Chevron B19 and Michael Gans’ Lola T290.
A colourful array of cars from Minis to Cortinas and BMWs will grace the start line for the Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars race and offer a glimpse of just how popular this series will be this year, with an oversubscribed grid shared with the Dutch NKHTGT Championship.
Not wishing to miss out on the great atmosphere in the paddock The Masters Three Hours race offers a chance for a whole heap of track time and strategy on a Formula 1 circuit. It will also reward participants with podium trophies up for grabs in GTP, Pre-66 Touring Cars and Gentlemen Drivers classes. Where else can you see Cobra vs. GT40 vs Mustang? It’s bound to be an exciting mix!
Come and enjoy the sunshine, take home some silverware and join us for the 2016 Awards Party on Saturday night! You can find further details on the event, timetable and hotels at:
