Thornton - Double winner in the mountains of Mont Tremblant!
Masters Historic Formula One USA drivers enjoyed Race 2 at Mont Tremblant!
The penultimate race of this three-day event was the Masters Historic Formula One USA Group. As usual, final class scores were the aggregate over both races so it was all to play for in Race 2.
As they qualified; Gregory Thornton was dominant in his 1982 Lotus 91, taking a second win of the weekend. He was followed by the lightning fast Ethan Shippert in his 9year older Brabham BT44 who could not quite catch him. Steve Romak a second and a bit behind or stayed in 3rd place in his 1985 Tyrrell 012-6.
On the last lap Chris Locke, 1976 Lotus 77, did his personal best lap time, and was pleased to slip ahead of Ron Maydon in the LEC. Locke was not disappointed to be passed by the excellent driving of former professional Indy Car driver Bruno Junqueira in a beautiful 1973 Brabham BT42 to place 4th. Andrew Beaumont, 1974 Lotus 76 bested Chris Bender (‘83 Arrows A6) who, at last, had brakes for an entire race!
James Hagan in his Tyrrell 011, who went off into the gravel last hairpin, too much Irish exuberance?
Trophy Prize giving was hosted by a boisterous Ron Maydon capping off the weekend on a terrific up note.
