Newall claims third victory

The Masters Allcomers race, including the CanAm Interserie Challenge, started on a slightly damp track in sunny conditions. Andrew Newall took lead at start from John Grant with Mike Donovan moving into 3rd past Frank Bradley.

By lap 3, Newall was 2.5 seconds clear, setting fastest lap as Jonathan Loader took the Inter A lead from Nick Pink. Newall stretched the lead again as the McLarens thundered around the Park, behind them Frank Bradley was harrying Mike Donovan, moving ahead on lap 5 as Nick Pink went off at McLeans, bringing out yellow flags.
Donovan wasn’t content to leave Bradley though, trying all he could to keep in touch until Frank Bradley brought the March into the pits with front end damage on lap 10. With 5 minutes remaining, Newall had a lead of 5 seconds over Grant, with Donovan taking over third some 26 seconds behind in Can Am B.

On lap 11, John Grant pulled into the pits, arm raised and suspecting some handling problems, mechanics rushing to attend to the front wheels and leaving Andrew Newall uncontested to claim his third victory of the season, with Mike Donovan (Can Am B) second and Paul Gibson third. Fourth and leading Inter A was Jonathan Loader in the Chevron.
